In the fall of 1998 Union College was one of 10 national liberal arts colleges to be awarded a $500,000 three-year grant in a new National Science Foundation program entitled 'Awards for the Integration of Research and Education (AIRE).'
A three-year grant of $335,000 from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation will enable Union faculty to experiment with and adapt computer and\ multimedia technologies and tools in the Freshman Preceptorial, an interdisciplinary course required of all entering students, and in other undergraduate courses.
