Employee Training

  1. College employees who work in a laboratory or perform support functions for a laboratory (such as chemical stockroom attendants) shall be trained on the following:  

    1. The content of this standard and its appendices, which shall be made available to all employees;

    2. The location and availability of the Laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan;

    3. Where to obtain information on the permissible exposure limits for OSHA regulated substances or recommended exposure limits for other hazardous chemicals where there is no applicable OSHA standard;

    4. Where to find information on the signs and symptoms known to be associated with exposures to hazardous chemicals used in the laboratory;

    5. The location and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and available emergency equipment.

  2. This training shall be accomplished using any of (but not limited to) the following training aids:

    1. Slide/tape of videotape on using and understanding Material Safety Data Sheets and (MSDS);

    2. Various videotape presentations of the OSHA Laboratory Safety Standard and the Hazard Communication Standard.
