Medical Consultation/Examination
-
Physical examinations will be provided to all laboratory employees
of
Union College upon initial employment and as necessary
thereafter.
-
Union
College will make available subsequent physical examinations
and/or
medical consultations for employees working with hazardous
chemicals when:
-
An
employee develops signs/symptoms of chemical exposure.
-
Upon
request.
-
Routine
monitoring reveals exposures above the action level of a
regulated
hazardous chemical or at the discretion of a physician.
-
The
occurrence of a spill/leak/explosion
would cause likelihood of a hazardous chemical
exposure.
-
All
medical examinations/consultations will be performed under the
direct supervision of a licensed physician.
-
The
following information shall be provided to the physician:
-
Identity of the chemical in question.
-
Description
of the incident that caused the suspected exposure and
quantity of the chemical if known and/or
available.
-
Description
of the signs/symptoms that the employee is experiencing.
-
The
physician shall provide a written opinion, which includes
-
Any
recommendation for further medical treatment and/or follow up.
-
The
results of the medical examination and any associated
tests;
-
Any
medical condition, which may be revealed in the course
of the examination, which may place the employee at
increased risk as a result of exposure to a hazardous
chemical found in the workplace;
-
A
statement that the employee has been informed by the
physician of the results of the consultation and/or
medical examination and any medical condition
that may require further examination or treatment; and
-
The
written opinion shall not reveal any specific finding of
diagnosis that is unrelated to the suspected
occupational exposure.
