Monitoring

  1. Initial Monitoring
    Initial monitoring for regulated chemicals shall be performed as required be the applicable standard if there is reason to believe that exposure levels for the substance routinely exceed the action level (or in the absence of and action level the PEL).

    If the material is not a regulated chemical, monitoring will be performed based on the toxicity of the material, available exposure limits and engineering controls available in order to control personnel exposure.

    An employee could be considered exposed to a hazardous chemical if any of the following occur.
    1. The work place monitoring revealed levels that exceed TLV's, PELs, or STELs;
    2. Illness or symptoms which an employee experiences which may be attributed to a chemical; or
    3. The occurrence of an incident that released a hazardous chemical into the environment sufficient to cause exposure.

  2. Periodic Monitoring
    (for regulated chemicals)  If the initial monitoring disclosed employee exposure over the action level (or in the absence of an action level, the PEL), the exposure monitoring provisions of the relevant standard shall be implemented.

  3. Determination of Monitoring
    Monitoring requirements may be terminated in accordance with the relevant standard.
