France Term Abroad

Union International Programs will offer a term abroad in Rennes, France, in the fall term. The Faculty Member in Residence will be announced at a later date.


Course of Study
  • French 204T & 207T The French Language Studied Abroad. An intensive study of modern French with emphasis on speaking and writing.
  • French 208T Contemporary France. A survey of current French life with particular emphasis on social and political institutions; offered only as part of the term abroad in France.
  • French 306T Readings in French and Fracaphone Cultire. France and the French of today as reflected in selected literary works from the Middle Ages to the present.

Expenses

The inclusive fee covers tuition, room, board, and all group excursions. It does not cover personal or recreational expenses. Travel to and from France and the purchase of an airline ticket are the individual responsibility of each student. All scholarships apply to the program, with the exception of work-study.


Eligibility

Students must have an overall GPA of at least 2.5 at the time of application, be in good academic standing when the program begins, and be certified as eligible by the Dean of Students. Students must also complete the prerequisite course, French 201.

Students apply for international programs two terms in advance. All international programs are competitive, some highly so. Attendance at a program's informational meeting is essential. Selection criteria include the student's essay, GPA, faculty recommendations, course of study, certification by the Dean of Students, and the selection committee's assessment of the student's capability of adapting to the program's social and academic environment. Should there be additional selection criteria, they will be announced at the informational meeting. The faculty selection committee seeks a group of students with varied academic and intellectual backgrounds and interests. The College urges students to seek advice from their academic advisors and from the international programs office to select programs appropriate to their academic and intellectual interests. While the College is very proud of the unusually high percentage of its students who study abroad, we must note that participation in all programs is limited.
