An Organizing Theme major requires the approval of the advisor and a Faculty Committee established by the Dean of Studies. It may be proposed no sooner than the third term of the freshman year and no later than the second term of the junior year.
To apply for an OT major, download the forms “A Guide to Preparing an Organizing Theme Major” and the “Organizing Theme Application Form.” Once you have put together an Organizing Theme Proposal, submit the proposal electronically to Melinda Lawson, the Assistant Director of Advising. Professor Lawson will review the proposal with you and, if necessary, suggest revisions.
Once the proposal meets the basic OT requirements, it will be sent to the OT Approval Committee, which consists of faculty members from each of the four divisions. Committee members may also suggest changes, and you will be asked to revise in accordance with these suggestions. Once these revisions have been made, the major is officially approved and sent to the Registrar. At that point, your major will be listed as Organizing Theme.
Please note that this process often takes a month or more.
