6-Year Law
Union sponsors a six-year Law and Public Policy Program with Albany Law School. Students enrolled in the program attend Union for three years and complete a major in economics or political science.
Admission to the Law School is assured as long as the student maintains a 3.2 grade point average at Union. The Law School degree program is also three years.
Admission to the Program is competitive. Applicants must be excellent students in their own high schools, taking the best courses available to them.
Successful applicants are ranked in the top ten percent of their high school classes. The SAT I and two SAT II tests or the ACT are required to complete an application. SAT I test scores of 1300 or better place an applicant in the most competitive group.
Applications are first reviewed at Union in the undergraduate admissions office. The folders of those students with the strongest credentials are forwarded to Albany Law School for review by the faculty and admissions staff of the Law School. Decisions are sent to the applicants in the first week of April.
Interviews are strongly recommended. Interviews may be scheduled on campus by calling the admissions office at 518-388-6112 or with an alumnus/a in your home community by calling the alumni admissions office at 518-388-6084.
It is critical that applicants to this Program indicate their intention of applying to the Law and Public Policy Program on the front of their applications.
This Program offers one way of preparing for Law School. Students in the four-year program also graduate and attend law school. These students work with the Union's law school advisor as do the students in the six-year program.
