The Wold Lectures on Religion and Violence
The Bible, especially the Old Testament, contains a disturbing amount of violence carried out with apparent divine approval. Guest speaker, John J. Collins, Holmes Professor of Old Testament Criticism and Interpretation at Yale University, will probe the nature and context of the violence, and reflect on how it can be understood. The installation of Peter Bedford as the John and Jane Wold Professor of Religious Studies will follow this event.
