Outside Information
A sound installation by Stephan Moore
July 10 - September 19, 2008

Nott Memorial, Union College
Outside Information is a site-specific, multi-channel sound installation that makes use of the acoustics inside the Nott Memorial using both the space's built-in speaker system and an array of Stephan Moore's hand-built Hemisphere speakers. The interior of the Nott is transformed into a dense, hushed wilderness of small, shifting sounds, inviting exploration and discovery.

The labyrinth is a mystical design of unknown origin, rich in universal symbolism. Today, all over the world, people work with this ancient symbol in a variety of ways, yet no one has unlocked its mystery. Our walk-able design, inspired by the movement of a pendulum, is a reference to the passage of time. Its faceted perimeter echoes the deeply symbolic architecture of the Nott Memorial.
