ECE senior projects get a new home
Dean of Engineering Bob Balmer and Prof. Cherrice Traver cut the ribbon cable to renovated labs |
"Intelliski" and the "Union College Weather Station" are among the senior projects that have proud new quarters in two remodeled spaces in electrical and computer engineering.
N106 has been renovated as a student project space with improved lighting, a new floor, new benches and test equipment. N100, long the home of older test equipment and large benches will see new life as a combination classroom and project space.
Prof. Cherrice Traver, department chair, and Dean of Engineering Robert Balmer, cut the ceremonial ribbon cable on Thursday, Oct. 28.
Seniors Joe Fisher and Steve Dumais are avid skiers who are creating a device – "Intelliski" -- that uses GPS points to map a skier's position on a mountain. The device will also record the number of runs a skier makes in a day as well as total vertical feet. They are testing their prototype at Jiminy Peak. For more on their project, visit: http://cs.union.edu/~dumaiss/
Jeff D'Alessandro and Brian Kruppenbacker are creating a weather station at the College that will give web viewers near and far a look at temperature, humidity, rainfall and wind on campus. And all from the comfort of their home or office. Their project is at: http://cs.union.edu/~kruppenb/
