Classics faculty present papers at conference
Three members of the classics department gave talks at the recent annual meeting of the American Philological Association in Boston. Stacie Raucci, visiting assistant professor of classics, made a presentation titled "Return of the Living Dead: Elegiac and Epic Female Spectral Images." Her paper explores how the role of female ghosts (as women without bodies) overturn generic expectations apropos standard tropes of objectification and the male gaze. Mark Toher, professor of classics, gave a paper, "Tillius and Horace," exploring the significance of the former for the latter. Hans-Friedrich Mueller, professor of classics, gave a talk on "Nocturnal Aspects of Roman Religion in Plutarch."
