Union responds to Katrina

Union College is reaching out to those affected by the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina. "We must help bring aid to all those who have suffered the hardships of hurricane Katrina," said Interim College President Jim Underwood. "The destruction and suffering dealt to the Gulf Coast states are without precedent."

Union fund raising for Katrina disaster relief includes the placement of donation canisters throughout campus buildings, offices, College Park Hall and athletic facilities. Contributions will be accepted in the form of cash or checks made payable to The American Red Cross Katrina Disaster Relief Efforts.

"Please look for the canisters and make a donation; any amount will be sincerely appreciated," says Community Outreach Director Gretchel Tyson, who is also coordinating a number of other fund-raising initiatives. Questions may be directed to her at ext. 6609 or tysong@union.edu.

In addition, a committee is to recommend ways to provide assistance to residents of the Gulf area, with a focus on those in colleges and universities. Members include Charlotte Borst, dean of arts and sciences; Dan Lundquist, vice president for admissions; and Terry S. Weiner,  special assistant to the president.
