Downtown festivities set for 'Welcome Back Day' Saturday
Food, dancing and discounts await Union College faculty, staff and students at "Welcome Back Day" on Saturday, Sept. 10, from noon to 6 p.m. at various downtown venues.
Sponsored by the College's Kenney Community Center, the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corp. and the Chamber of Schenectady, the day is intended to highlight Schenectady's many offerings for new and returning members of the Union community.
Among the events are:
-- Greek Festival at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church: Homemade Greek specialties, live entertainment and dancing
-- Jay Street shopping
-- Stockade Art Show: The Northeast's oldest outdoor art show in Schenectady's historic Stockade neighborhood
-- Black Dimensions in Art: Presenting Stanwyck Cromwell's Caribbean Art at Schenectady Museum, 15 Nott Terrace Heights
-- Free climbing (with Union ID) on rock wall: Center City Sportsplex, 433 State St.
-- Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith: Proctor's Theatre, 432 State St., 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.; free to moviegoers with Union ID; $3 for all others
-- "Artsplosure" at Experience & Creative Design, 510 Union St.; open house at Schenectady's largest interior design center
