Steckler exhibit to close with reception on April 30

"Charles Steckler: Stage Design – Retrospective Exhibition," which has enjoyed tremendous success since its Jan. 12 opening, will close on Sunday, April 30, with a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Nott Memorial.

"If you didn't get a chance to come to the opening, this is your opportunity to see the exhibit, meet the artist, and enjoy a great afternoon of food, music and art," said Rachel Seligman, director of the Mandeville Gallery.

"Charles Steckler: Stage Design" spans the 35-year career of the well-known professor of theater and designer-in-residence. It features some 40 of his stage designs as well as photographs, drawings, construction models and a range of compelling artifacts.

"Stage design is an ephemeral art form," said Steckler. "After the play is over, my work ceases to exist. In fact, it is literally destroyed. All that remains is a memory and these few images. It is an unusual occasion where a stage designer's art can have a second life in a gallery exhibition."

The award-winning jazz band, Dead Cat Bounce, will perform throughout the reception, with a full concert set at 3:30 p.m. The band, from Boston, features four saxophones, upright bass and drums.
