Latino film festival under way

The Latino Film Series, sponsored by Sigma Lambda Upsilon, features films, from history to romance, every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Social Sciences 012.

Next up, on May 2: "Panama Deception," a documentary on the 1989 U.S. invasion of Panama.

Other films include:

"Nueva Yol," May 9: The tale of a Dominican widower named Balbuena who moves to New York searching for a better life and encounters a troubled family reunion, difficulty finding a job, a wild relationship with another ex-Dominican and a run-in with the law.

"Strawberry and Chocolate," May 16:  The story of a great friendship and love between two men that ultimately overcomes incomprehension and intolerance.

"Bread and Roses," May 23: Two Latina sisters working as cleaners in a downtown office building fight for the right to unionize; and

"Maria Full of Grace," May 30: A pregnant Colombian teenager becomes a drug mule to make some desperately needed money for her family.
