Union announces 12 endowed professorships

Twelve faculty members have received endowed professorships in recognition of their teaching, scholarship and service, Therese McCarty, dean of faculty, has announced.

Several are existing positions while others were positions created by recent gifts to the College's endowment. The recipients, to be honored at a faculty dinner on June 8, are the following:  

Thomas Armstrong Professor of Economics: Suthathip Yaisawarng

Frank Bailey Professor of Classics: Mark S. Toher

John Bigelow Professor of History: Mark W. Walker

Dwane W. Crichton Professor of Philosophy: Raymond F. Martin

Joseph C. Driscoll Professor of Sociology and Marine Policy: Ilene M. Kaplan

Agnes S. Macdonald Professor of Mechanical Engineering: Ann Anderson

John Howard Payne Professor of Music: Hilary Tann

Florence B. Sherwood Professor of History and Culture: Teresa A. Meade

Florence B. Sherwood Professor of Life Sciences: Robert Olberg

William D. Williams Professor of Classics: Hans-Friedrich O. Mueller

William D. Williams Professor of Mathematics: William Zwicker

William D. Williams Professor of Philosophy: Robert B. Baker
