Summer 2006 was a busy one for the dozens of students who participated in one of Union's most distinctive academic offerings – undergraduate research.

In fact, more than 100 students were engaged in summer scholarly work under the direction of Union faculty members in a range of disciplines.

Twenty students will present posters about their research in the Olin Rotunda, 3-4:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13, during Homecoming Weekend.

The diverse topics include:

  • "The Ancient ‘Greek' Myths in the Francophone & Hispanic Caribbean" by Victoria Leonard '07, whose research with William Garcia of the Modern Languages & Literatures Department was funded through Union's Future Professors Program.
  • "HI Gas and Star Formation Properties of Nearby Spiral Galaxies" by Bilal Mahmood '08, who received a Summer Scholars Fellowship for his work on this project with Rebecca Koopmann of the Physics & Astronomy Department.
  • "The Innuendo Effect Revisited: Does Motivation Matter?" by James Shand '07, whose research with George Bizer of the Psychology Department was funded by a Union College Summer Research Fellowship.
  • "How to Research the Hard to Find" by Meaghan Heisinger '07, who received a Union College Summer Research Fellowship for her work with Andrea Foroughi of the History Department.
