Big hearts help needy families

Once again, Union students, faculty and staff demonstrated the spirit of the holiday season in many ways. Hockey fans supported Toys for Tots at the Dec. 15 Union game against UMass-Lowell. The Dean of Students Office partnered with the Salvation Army for the 13th year, collecting 100 toys for children through age 12.

The Records Department ran an "Adopt a Family" program through Schenectady County Social Services. Fifty adults and youngsters in 10 families received gifts and food donated by more than 100 Union folks. Kathleen McCann, director of College Relations Data Systems, said the presents overflowing the upstairs offices at 17 South Lane made for "a breathtaking sight... I've always known that the people I work with are phenomenal, and again, they outdid themselves," McCann said.

"I'm thankful for all the big, caring Union hearts."
