Education expert conducts diversity, harassment workshops

The College is hosting a workshop for faculty, head coaches and administrators (VPs, deans, directors) next week on how to prevent incidents of unlawful harassment.

Sessions will be conducted by Ann Franke, a nationally-recognized expert in higher education policy, risk and law who specializes in discrimination, harassment and academic freedom issues. Franke holds bachelor's, master's and law degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. She also earned a master of laws degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.

Workshop sessions will be held Wednesday, Jan. 17, 1:30-3:45 pm; Thursday, Jan. 18, 1:30-3:45 p.m. and 6:30-8:45 p.m.; and Friday, Jan. 19, 9-11:15 a.m. in the College Park Hall ballroom. To reserve space, contact Judy Ludwig (ext. 6102 or ludwiga@union.edu).

Attendance at one of these sessions is important for legal and ethical reasons, Dean of Faculty Therese A. McCarty said.

Franke will hold a harassment, discrimination and diversity forum for students Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Nott Memorial.
