Robert Baker, the William D. Williams Professor of Philosophy and chair of Union’s Ethics Across the Curriculum Initiative, is presenting a paper, today, Oct. 12, at a McGill University symposium, “A Tribute to Benjamin Freedman,” to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the death of the Canadian philosopher-bioethicist. His paper is titled, “Carrying Codes to Newcastle: Reflections on Benjamin Freedman and The Ethics of Bioethics.” Baker serves on the American Bioethics Society’s ethics standards committee, which is developing a code of ethics for bioethicists.
Harry Marten, the Edward E. Hale Jr. Professor of English and chair of the English Department, will sign his new book, But That Didn¹t Happen to You, at the Open Door Bookstore and Gift Gallery on Jay Street, Saturday, Oct. 20, 1-2:30 p.m. Marten has called his memoir “a conversation across generations.”
