Faculty Approve Two Minors

The faculty on Thursday voted to allow students to declare up to two minors.

They also approved an AAC proposal that students be required to declare all minors by the end of their first term in senior year.

Faculty also approved the requirement for an instructor's permission to add a course during the second week of a term, even if the course is open.

They also voted to extend the deadline for declaring Pass/Fail to the end of the second week of the term, bringing it in line with the Add/Drop deadline.

Faculty also considered revisions to the faculty manual proposed by the Faculty Executive Committee. Faculty are to vote on the proposals by mail ballot after 30 days.

Among the changes would be an amendment to the preface of the manual that changes to the manual be made in consultation with the FEC, that the administration consult the FEC on changes to the faculty manual not requiring faculty approval, and that appointments to liaison committees be staggered three-year terms. Also discussed was a change that would empower the FRB to create as many subcommittees as necessary to deal with its areas of responsibility, that would grant faculty status and voting rights to the director of the Schaffer Library, that chair of the FEC (not the dean of faculty) be consulted about procedural questions in appeals.
