Gilfoyle to speak on science, security and terrorism

Nuclear physicist Jerry Gilfoyle will discuss "Science and Security in an Age of Terrorism" on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Nott Memorial.
His talk, part of the College's Perspectives at the Nott series, is free and open to the public.
President Bush has called on our nation's scientists and engineers to harness the vast capabilities of science and technology, and to provide greater security in the war on terrorism. Jerry Gilfoyle will focus on some of the problems we face in that war, including the threats from weapons of mass destruction, some ideas that may winthe war, and at what price.
Gilfoyle is an experimental nuclear physicist and associate professor of physics at the University of Richmond. He was a Defense Policy Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science from 1999 to 2000, and serves as a scientific consultant to the U.S. Department of Defense on weapons of mass destruction. He was recently a member of the Task Force for Countering Terrorism of the American Physical Society.
