Investigation of Fox Hall fire continues; no one hurt

Fire investigators and College officials were dealing Thursday morning with the aftermath of a fire that destroyed a common room of a third-floor suite in the south wing of Fox Hall on Wednesday.

No injuries were reported in the fire.

Schenectady firemen and campus safety officers were called to the dorm shortly after 5 p.m., according to Schenectady Fire Chief Robert Farstad.

Two of the four women who lived in the suite were present when the fire broke out, but they escaped unharmed, Farstad said.

All alarms and other fire safety devices appear to have worked properly, according to Bill Sickinger, director of campus safety.

Fire investigators had not announced a cause as of Thursday morning.

Rooms adjacent to the suite received smoke and water damage, and about 12 students were staying in alternate housing until their rooms could be restored, residence life officials said. There appeared to be a minimal smoke odor in other rooms and common areas.

Fox Hall houses about 250 students.
