Gmelch receives award for contributions to minor league baseball

George Gmelch, professor of anthropology, received an award for his contributions to minor league baseball at the centennial celebration of minor league baseball at the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History in June. Other honorees were Crash Davis (of Bull Durham fame), Pat Jordan and Rick Wolf. Gmelch also has published articles in the Chronicle of Higher Education ("Enthrall the Culture of Baseball" on Aug. 10) and The New York Times ("Taking a Longer View of Living in the Minors" on Aug. 19).
