Fried, Schmidt and Yaisawarng participated in European Workshop
Harold Fried and Shelton Schmidt, professors of economics, and Suthathip Yaisawarng, associate professor of economics, participated in the seventh European Workshop on Efficiency and Productivity in Oviedo, Spain. Fried and Yaisawarng presented a paper, "Credit Union Scale Economies," a joint work with Professor Lovell of the University of Georgia. Fried served as session chair and commentator for a keynote speaker, Robert Russell of the University of California, Riverside. Yaisawarng and Schmidt presented their collaborative project, "Efficiency in Performing Laparascopic Cholecystectomy: Evidence from Massachusetts Hospitals" with Schmidt serving as session chair. Also, Schmidt has a paper, "The Fisher Z-Transformation: A Method to Test for Value Relevance in International Accounting Research," accepted for publication in the Journal of Accounting and Finance Research. This is joint work with Joan Hollister, a 1998 Ph.D. graduate of GMI.
