Union College's Graduate Management Institute adds eight to Advisory Council
Schenectady, N.Y. (Nov. 9, 1998) Union College's Graduate Management Institute (GMI) has named eight leaders in business, law, education and government as the newest members of its Advisory Council, it was announced by Joseph P. Zolner, director of GMI.
"The growth of our Advisory Council is part of GMI's ongoing strategy to increase the visibility and community impact of Union's high-quality MBA program," Zolner said. We are extremely confident that these leaders will bring their outstanding talent to GMI. The Advisory Council provides Union's MBA programs with invaluable counsel and a critical 'real-world' perspective. These newest members three of whom are Union College alumni bring a range of strengths to GMI."
Managing Director, Loeb Partners Corporation
Mr. Bagatelle specializes in Equity Capital Markets. Loeb Partners is a New York City investment banking firm. Prior to joining Loeb Partners in 1988, Mr. Bagatelle was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of another New York City investment banking firm. He began his professional career as a CPA with Arthur Andersen & Co. followed by twelve years in senior management with various industrial companies. He is a member of the boards of directors of Energy Research Corporation, Genisys Reservation Systems, Inc. and Wave Entertainment, Inc. Mr. Bagatelle received his B.A. in Economics from Union College and an M.B.A. from Rutgers University.
Eleanor P. Bartlett
Retired Deputy Superintendent, Albany City School District
Ms. Bartlett served the City School District of Albany, New York from 1971 until 1998 when she retired as Deputy Superintendent. She has held a number of professional appointments including Vice President of the Administrators Association and was named Principal of the Year in 1994. Ms. Bartlett is also active in community affairs and serves on a number of boards including the Albany Arts Commission. She holds a B.A. degree from West Virginia State College and an M.A. from the College of St. Rose.
Charlotte S. Buchanan
Retired attorney formerly with McNamee, Lochner, Titus & Williams, P.C.
Ms. Buchanan received a B.A. degree from Lawrence University and a J.D. degree from Albany Law School. In addition to her legal work, she taught a biomedical ethics course at SUNY-Albany for five years. She has served on a number of boards including Albany Medical Center, Albany Law School, Kaiser-Permanente Northeast Division, and the Albany-Tula Alliance. She also chaired the New York State Commission on the Capital Region.
Margaret B. Buhrmaster
Director, Office of Regulatory Reform, NYS Department of Health
Ms. Buhrmaster directs all regulatory processing within the New York State Department of Health and coordinates health reform activities with the Governor's Office of Regulatory Reform. Before assuming her current position, she was a Schenectady County Legislator for seventeen years, serving as Chairman of the County Board for the last five years. She was a prime developer of Schenectady Economic Development Corporation, Conifer Park and MVP Health Plan, as well as owner of her own personal and professional development business, Burch & Associates. She has a B.S. degree from Syracuse University.
Thomas W. Carroll
Mr. Carroll founded and runs the Empire Foundation for Policy Research, an independent "think tank," and CHANGE-NY, the state's largest taxpayer organization. He previously served as Governor George E. Pataki's deputy director of regulatory reform, as a top fiscal and economic advisor to Senator Joseph Bruno and as a research aide to Senator Kenneth P. LaValle, chairman of the Senate Committee on Higher Education. Mr. Carroll, a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, has also held positions in the state Division of the Budget and the research and fiscal staffs of the Assembly Republican Leader.
William C. Dehmer
Regional Executive, The Chase Manhattan Bank
Mr. Dehmer is responsible for the bank's business in a substantial portion of upstate New York. He was an executive of the Chemical Bank prior to its merger with Chase. A 1980 graduate of Siena College with a B.S. in Finance, Mr. Dehmer has taken a number of graduate courses at Russell Sage College and is a graduate of the Stonier School of Banking at the University of Delaware. Over the past ten years, he has served as Chairman of the Capital Group of Robert Morris Associates, a professional association of corporate bankers; a board member of Our Lady of Mercy Life Center as well as a member of a number of other civic boards.
Jay W. Freeland
General Manager - Northeast Region, General Electric Energy Services
Mr. Freeland was appointed to his position in June 1998. His responsibilities include product and service sales plans for eleven states plus the District of Columbia. Previously, he was General Manager for Sales and Customer Quality Initiatives within Global Sales for GE Energy Services. Mr. Freeland joined GE in 1991 following his graduation from Union College where he earned a B.A. degree in Economics.
Peter J. Mansbach
Of Counsel, Kronish Lieb Weiner & Hellman L.L.P.
Mr. Mansbach is a director of various companies including Republic New York Corporation and Republic National Bank of New York and Chairman of the U.S. Group and Member of the Directoire of the European Group of Van Cleef and Arpels. He received his B.A. from Union College and a law degree from Columbia University School of Law as a Harlan Stone Scholar.
The Graduate Management Institute offers a limited number of rigorous masters-level programs in management to a diverse and highly-qualified group of students. GMI offers MBAs in management, health systems administration, international management and accounting; masters of science in health systems management, industrial administration and computer management systems. GMI also offers joint-degree programs with Albany Medical College, Albany Law School and Albany College of Pharmacy.
