Nearly 400 prospective students and their parents visited campus Monday to experience college life and sample what Union has to offer.

Students could choose from a full day’s schedule of offerings including campus tours, attending a lecture, visiting labs and residence halls and meeting with faculty and athletics staff.

"When students visit Union, and see and experience what the College has to offer first-hand, they can imagine themselves attending here,” said Ann Fleming Brown, interim vice president for Admissions and Financial Aid. “Students and their parents meet directly with faculty and administrators to get their questions answered."

Carole Steen and her son Teddy, 17, of Worcester, Mass. were visiting at the invitation of Men’s Soccer coach Jeff Guinn. Teddy, a forward on the soccer team at Worcester Academy, is interested in studying business. He sat in on an economics class taught by Professor Shelton S. Schmidt.

“I didn’t understand all of the symbols, but I could follow along with his explanations and real-world applications,” said Teddy Steen. “I was especially impressed that he noticed and acknowledged me in the back of the room when he was passing out handouts to his students.”

Sierra Fuller, 17, a senior at Wilbraham and Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Mass., came to campus with her parents, Mark and Kristi. She’s currently taking Latin, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish in school and plans to continue her study of languages in college.

“I’m interested in human relationships, helping others and what motivates people,” said Fuller. “I’d like to pursue a double major in German and Spanish and possibly learn Hebrew or Russian as well.”
