 Geology

New Hampshire magma series rocks are shown mostly in ORANGE-RED, with more felsic varieties shown in LIGHT PINK and more mafic varieties in LIGHT PURPLE to the east of the Bronson Hill anticlinorium domes (bright purple).

The New Hampshire magma series is here shown in BLACK. The White Mountain magma series is in BLUE, and the Taconian plutonic rocks in the cores of Bronson Hill anticlinorium domes are shown in GREEN.

The New Hampshire magma series is generally shown here in the stippled pattern, labeled Acadian Plutons. However, the New Hampshire magma series does not include the rocks in Vermont, Maine, or the body shown in extreme northern New Hampshire. Note that NHMS rocks are all at rather high metamorphic grade.

A photograph of an outcrop of Kinsman in the Cardigan pluton, southwestern New Hampshire. This rock contains large microcline phenocrysts, garnets, and cordierite (mostly altered, not really distinguishable).
