PLAY List 2004 __ Volume 5 |
The PLAY Lists >> The Best Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgendered CDs of 2003 A Critical Consensus
Rufus Wainwright was the only GLBT artist to appear on the listing by The Advocate and to receive an Outmusic Award ("Outstanding New Recording—Male"). He was also the only one with critical recognition beyond the GLBT sources used to compile this Play List, appearing on the "best of 2003" rankings published by The Village Voice (16), Mojo (21), Rolling Stone (5), Paste (1), and Harp (10), so his No. 1 ranking here is well-deserved. Me'Shell NdegeOcello's Comfort Woman topped The Advocate's annual list.

Quantifying Critical Consensus: Methodology >>
Just two sources were used there, so the data is a little skimpy. The Advocate's listing was ranked. The Outmusic Awards website makes no "record of the year" type designation, so all award winners were scored equally. Everything was weighted at 1.25 since only specialized, authoritative sources were used.
See Quantifying Critical Consensus for more detail.
