UNION COLLEGE LIBRARY
FRESHMAN PRECEPTORIAL LIBRARY INSTRUCTION

Guidelines  For Preceptors
[For Classes Electing Not To Visit The Library As A Group*]
Fall 1998

1) The librarian assigned to your class will distribute an information packet to your Preceptorial students containing:

Please encourage the students to attend, and please remind them that satisfactory performance (see #4 below) is a College requirement for all students in the Freshman Preceptorial.

2)     The students will hand in the exercise at the Reference Desk. The librarian instructor will collect the papers, evaluate them, contact students who do not complete exercise or who demonstrate substantive errors, and return their corrected exercises.

3) The librarian instructor will contact you in order to communicate which of your students have performed satisfactorily     overall and which have performed unsatisfactorily.

4)   "Satisfactory" performance is achieved by handing in the exercise by its due date, with substantially correct answers, (i.e., the student's answers should display understanding of the essentials of the exercise). The librarian instructor will notify students whose exercise was not handed in or whose exercise did not display substantial understanding, in the librarian's judgment.

5)     There will be time available for the students who are evaluated unsatisfactorily to contact their designated librarian and complete enough of the exercise correctly to qualify for a satisfactory mark. The librarian will so inform the Preceptor.

6) Refer student's problems and questions to the librarian designated.

* Classes that come in as a group automatically meet Program requirements
