ResNet stands for the Union College
Residential Network, an ethernet network service provided by Information
Technology Services (ITS). It allows any member of the Union College
community access to campus and world-wide electronic resources from
several locations within Schaffer Library. Only registered users are
allowed to use ResNet. You can automatically register your network
connection by filling out and submitting a form located on the ITS Union College ResNet page.
This page also provides documentation, system requirements, support
contacts, troubleshooting, rules and policies.
In addition to the public computers
situated throughout the building, users can connect to the network via a
computer laptop and a network cable from the following locations:
- Basement - Look for specially marked study
carrels along the outside wall of the building. Some carrels are
marked with a ResNet connection sign. Others have a ResNet label
on the network jack located on a nearby wall or column.
- Second Floor - Lamps on tables above the atrium
area have jacks to accommodate network cables. Also, look for
specially marked study carrels in the front of the building, facing
the Nott. The columns near the carrels have ResNet designated
jacks.
In order to connect to the network, users must:
- Register with ITS to receive a ResNet Installation Packet. Configure your laptop with the network information provided.
- Plug the cable firmly into the network card and then plug the cable into an appropriately labeled wall jack.
For additional ResNet support contact x2166 or resnetstaff@union.edu
Wireless Network
The wireless network is now active in several buildings
on the Union College Campus, including Schaffer Library. The
wireless network allows users the flexibility of connecting their laptop
computers to campus and world-wide electronic resources without the need
for cables and jacks. Users can access the wireless network from the
following areas:
- Schaffer Library Basement, 1st Floor, 2nd Floor, 3rd Floor and Special Collections
- Schaffer Library Outdoor Courtyard
The Union College Wireless Network page
offers registration information, as well as additional location
availability on campus. You must have a laptop computer with a
supported wireless network card installed. The only cards currently
supported by ITS are the Orinico Gold II and Apple Airport. They are
available from the College Bookstore.
