Of specific applicability to business and management, there are the following:

Commercial Atlas & Marketing Guide. Chicago: Rand McNally, 2000.

Sources of Statistics

IMPORTANT: For a categorized listing of MANY titles, some in the Library's Reference Collection and some available on the Internet, please click here to utilize the Library's Statistical Data page.

Much--not all--of what Lexis-Nexis cites is available in full text online.  For the rest, Schaffer Library also subscribes to microfiche copies of all the statistics cited in the above (with certain exceptions).

Assistance with data retrieval is available at the Library's Reference Desk.

Course-Related Materials > Research Guides

Research Guides supplement the broader Research by Subject pages (such as this one) by focusing on the print and electronic resources that are most useful for a course-specific research assignment. For faculty, the Research Guides provide structured access to the Library and Internet resources relevant to their own work or in advising students on their research projects. For students working independently, they serve as a reminder of services and materials offered within the Library, while at the same time providing a gateway for information available from remote sites.

Relevant guides for business and management:

Course-Related Materials > Blackboard

Faculty using Blackboard are encouraged to incorporate links to Library resources—and specifically the Research by Subject pages and the appropriate course-related Research Guides—into the Blackboard course pages. Your Departmental Liaison or Bibliographic Instruction Contacts can assist you.

Electronic Materials > Databases & Indexes

Schaffer Library provides a range of general and subject-specific electronic databases—some offering full-text access to articles or library holdings information. Click below for the databases and indexes most relevant to business and management.

Electronic Materials > Selected Web Sites

Alta Plana: International Economics Gateway.
This corporate portal site offers useful Internet links in four major categories:
1. General business and economics Web-sites, including data
2. Web-sites of international organizations
3. Web-sites of national governments
4. Corporate Web-sites
[http://www.altaplana.com/gate.html]

Conference Board.
A non-profit "global, independent membership organization in the public interest," as the Conference Board describes itself on its Web-site, "we conduct research, convene conferences, make forecasts, assess trends, publish information and analysis." [http://www.conference-board.org]

Executive Planet.
Although this commercial site is a well-organized and user-friendly place to find extensive information on the cultural "do's and don't's" so important to successful business relations in most countries, the site fails to identify any individuals or organizations responsible for the Web-site; however, offsetting that is the use of signed articles, where selected portions of the site's content are attributed to a known informant whose qualifications are given.

GlobalEdge.
This site is a component of the University of Michigan's MSU-CIBER site (listed below), and it offers portal access to Web-sites pertaining to trade with specific countries.

International Chamber of Commerce.
This global business organization provides through its Web-site reports, policies, and statistics on many aspects of international business.

Management First.
Although some material is limited to subscriber-access only, there are articles, reports, case studies, reviews of books and Web-sites, all provided with the purpose of enhancing management skills; responsibility for the site rests with Emerald, Inc., a publisher of management and other journals.

MSU-CIBER.
Originating from Michigan State University's Graduate School of Management, this site aims at "assistance to businesses on issues of importance to international trade and global competitiveness."  It presents links to informational Web-pages created by the site, as well as downloadable software aimed at assisting international business decision-making.

Resources for Economists on the Internet.
This site is the economics and business component of the highly regarded WWW-Virtual Library portal sites, maintained by subject specialist volunteers.  Though entirely consisting of pointers to other places on the Internet, Resources for Economists offers a great variety of business and economics links, including data, organizational, educational, media, and other "neat stuff" material.

Transparency International--USA.
The organization Transparency International promotes anti-corruption laws and practices in international business and trade.  The Web-site of its American branch offers such full-text material as an annual corruption index ranking countries for level of corruption, an anti-bribery "toolkit" guiding firms with best practices, and a number of links to off-site information.  There is an easily spotted link--"TI Home Page"--leading to the parent organization Transparency International, headquartered in Berlin and London.

U.S. Business Advisor.
The Small Business Administration here offers a portal to the information of at least 60 federal agencies with official influence over business development.  Taxes, international trade, law, workplace issues, customer and vendor relations with government, and available financial assistance all come into play in the links listed. [http://www.business.gov]

WorkIndex.
Tied to Cornell's noted School of Industrial and Labor Relations, as well as to the journal Human Resource Executive, this site offers quite a lot of its own content, while it also serves as a portal to "hr" or personnel information on the Web.  A hint of the intriguing approach of WorkIndex is given by its "salary wizard" which computes typical salary for occupations in various locations and its "cost of living wizard" which computes how much salary increase a move to a new location would require in order not to lose buying power.

E-Commerce Times.
This online newspaper is one of several organs of the ECT News Network, and it particularly "feeds" Internet industry professionals (whether management or technical in orientation and assignment) with news of daily developments in electronic commerce.
