Audio Recording Using Olympus WS-300M Voice Recorder
This tutorial will teach you how to record audio using a digital voice recorder (Olympus WS-300M) and how to download the
voice recordings to your computer.
Equipment
You will need Olympus WS-300M digital voice recorder (see
Olympus website).
Audio Recording
- Make sure you have the battery charged (or have a replacement one - the recorder uses AAA batteries).
- Turn on the recorder by sliding the "Hold" button on the side of the device to the right. If the button is already in the right
position, press the "OK" button on the front of the recorder. To record, the "Music/Voice" slider that is placed next to the "Hold"
button must be in its right position "Voice".
- Make sure that there is enough room for recording. After the recorder is turned on, the remaining time is
either displayed on the screen or you need to press and hold the "Stop" button to view it.
- You have five different folders to store your recordings to. They are marked with letters A, B, C, D, and E. It may be
convenient to sort your files, e.g. folder A can be for one course and folder B for another course. To switch between
the folders, press the "Folder/Index" button on the front side of the recorder.
- You can start recording now just by pressing the "Rec" button on the right side of the recorder. When you wish to
stop the recording, press the "Stop" button located under the "Rec" button.
- Your recording is saved to the memory of the recorder. To access the recordings, use arrows on the front screen of the recorder.
To play a specific file, press the "Play" button on the right side of the recorder.
Downloading the files to a computer
- The USB connector is hidden inside the recorder. To access it, you need to release the cover of the connector. On the back
side of the recorder, there is the "Release" button. Press it and hold it and move the lower part away from the upper part of
the recorder.
Connect the recorder to an empty USB port on your computer.
Windows

- The window that is displayed contains folders that correspond to the folders where you can record to - A, B, C, D, and E. Double-click

- Drag the files to your computer.
- Disconnect the recorder from the computer by clicking on a small icon in the taskbar and selecting "Safely Remove ...".
