Audio Recording Using Olympus WS-300M Voice Recorder

This tutorial will teach you how to record audio using a digital voice recorder (Olympus WS-300M) and how to download the voice recordings to your computer.

Equipment

You will need Olympus WS-300M digital voice recorder (see Olympus website).

Downloading the files to a computer

  • Connect the recorder to an empty USB port on your computer.
  • Windows

    • On the pop-up screen, select "Open folder to view files" and press "OK".

    • The window that is displayed contains folders that correspond to the folders where you can record to - A, B, C, D, and E. Double-click on the folder where you saved your files.

    • Drag the files to your computer.
    • Disconnect the recorder from the computer by clicking on a small icon in the taskbar and selecting "Safely Remove ...".

  • Macintosh

    • Go to the Finder and locate a new hard disc. Click on its name in the left column of the Finder. You will see all folders of the recorder. They correspond to the folders where you can record to - A, B, C, D, and E. Double-click on the folder where you saved your files.

    • Drag the files to your computer. The files are in WMA format. See below for playing these files.
    • Disconnect the recorder by clicking on a small "Eject" icon next to the name of the recorder in the left column of the Finder.

  • Play your files

    Convert your files to MP3

    To publish the recordings, you will need to convert them to MP3 format. Follow How to convert WMA to MP3 tutorial.
