Ublog Instructions
Ublog is a Union-hosted blog for the whole college community. It is located at http://ublog.union.edu/.
Registration
Before posting anything you need to register. Click Register, choose a username and type in your email address, a password will be generated and emailed to you immediately. You can change the password when you login.
User interface
Once you log in, you are presented with four links (tabs) on the left hand side.
- Dashboard
- overview of recent activity, links to frequently used features
- Write
- page for creating a new post
- Manage
- list of posts, lets you view others' posts and edit your previous posts
- Profile
- update your personal information and password here
Posting on the blog
Upon a successful login, you are taken directly to the Write page for composing new posts. Give your post a title, assign it to categories under which you wish it to appear and click Publish.
If you want to continue editing the post later, click Save; you can continue editing the post by clicking on its title in the Your Drafts list at the top of the Write or Manage page.
Managing posts
Click on the Manage tab; all your drafts are listed at the top of the page, below appears a list of your and others' posts. From here you can delete and edit your previous posts as well as modify their properties.
Advanced formatting
When composing or editing a post, you can use bolding, italicization, strike-through. Numbered and bulleted lists can be created. All formatting options are accessible from the rich editor toolbar on the Write page. For greater control, you can use a subset of HTML after clicking the HTML icon on the formatting toolbar.
Using images
Images can be easily used in your posts. Simply click on "Browse all" below the post composition window to see available images, and drag the chosen image to the desired location.
Alignment
To adjust image alignment, click the image and then the picture icon in the rich editor toolbar, a pop-up window will appear letting you choose the alignment.
Image upload
You can upload new images to use in your posts by clicking Upload under the post composition window, then click "Browse", navigate to the image on your computer, and click "Upload", your image will then appear under "Browse All", from where you can drag it to the editing window.
