Academic Resources

Schaffer Library

The library's position at the hub of the College's grounds is no accident, for no other facility is more central to all academic activity. The library houses more than 500,000 volumes and 1,600 current periodical subscriptions, together with a periodicals reading room, faculty studies, and more than 500 individual study spaces.

It operates on the open stack plan and offers bibliographic instruction, interlibrary loan, on-line bibliographic retrieval services, electronic document delivery, and Internet workstations for access to indexes, abstracts, and full-text journals online. Automated circulation of books and other library materials as well as the on-line catalog are in place.

The library has been a depository for federal documents since 1901. Professional reference service is offered during nearly all hours that the library is open.

Writing Center/Academic Strategies

Located in rooms 226 & 227 of the Schaffer Library, the Writing Center is open during afternoons and evenings to work with students, faculty and staff. The director and student tutors are available to help writers in getting started, writing drafts, and final editing -- in academic and nonacademic tasks.

Media Services

The Media Services Office (located on the second floor of Schaffer Library) maintains and lends AV equipment and media materials to members of the campus community. For information about services, please contact Marie Rucinski, Media Specialist/Office Manager, at 388-6438; or Ginny Solomon, Director, at 388-6550.
