Admissions Requirements and Eligibility
Admissions
When applying to Union's AOP/HEOP programs, prospective students must complete Union College's admissions process. Be sure to check the box expressing interest as a candidate for the AOP/HEOP programs.
Eligibility
Qualified candidates for Union's AOP/HEOP programs generally do not meet Union College's standard admission profile, but demonstrate the potential to succeed within this program.
In order to be eligible for HEOP, applicants must
- Reside in New York State
- Possess a New York high school diploma or its equivalent
- Meet New York State Education Department's economic eligibility criteria
In order to be eligible for AOP, applicants must
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Demonstrate a need for additional academic and/or financial support
HEOP Economic Eligibility: Use the following chart to determine financial eligibility for HEOP students first entering college on or after July 1, 2009.

Add $2,710 for a household supported by one member working two or more jobs at the same time.

* The amount shown for this add-on allowance includes a circumstance where one parent is working one or more jobs.
Exceptions
The income guidelines noted above do not apply if a student falls into one of the following categories:
- The student or the student's family is the recipient of Aid to Dependent Children (ADC), Home Relief, or Family Day Care payments through a New York State or a County Department of Social Services;
- The student is living with foster parents who do not provide support for college and no monies are provided from the natural parents; or
- The student is a ward of the State of New York or a County in New York State.
Transfer Students
Any student who has previously attended a post-secondary institution and who participated in an opportunity program such as EOP, HEOP, or SEEK is eligible to apply.
