Grant News & Information

October 2009 Announcement:

Union faculty investigators are part of a select group nationwide supported by National Science Foundation (NSF) grant programs.  The complete details and information about active NSF-funded research and curricular activities are now available!

The following announcements pertain to grant opportunities and general undergraduate educational programs:

From the National Science Foundation:

  • Federal Register Notice: A Request for Public Comment on NSF's proposed implementation of Section 7009 of the America COMPETES Act (ACA) has been published.  This section of the Act requires that "each institution that applies for financial assistance from the Foundation for science and engineering research or education describe in its grant proposal a plan to provide appropriate training and oversight in the responsible and ethical conduct of research to undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers participating in the proposed research project." The proposed effective date for implementation is October 1, 2009.  Given the importance of this proposed new requirement for the research community, we strongly encourage you to review the Federal Register notice.
  • The National Science Board (Board) intends to revise cost sharing policies at the National Science Foundation (NSF) and is requesting, as part of the Board’s continuing efforts in ensuring transparency in policy setting, public comment on the new proposed policies. Given the importance of cost sharing issues to the research enterprise, the Board hopes that you will take this opportunity to express your views on the proposed policy changes.
  • The National Science Board, which serves as the policy board of the National Science Foundation, also serves as a national science and engineering policy advisory body to the President and Congress. In this latter role, the Board recommends to the new Administration a series of actions that would be especially effective in addressing critical problems of U.S. precollege STEM education.
