Part B. Distribution Requirements

  • Social Sciences (1 course)
  • Humanities (2 courses, including one literature (HUL))
  • Linguistic and Cultural Competency (2 courses)
    • a sequence of two courses in one foreign language at level 101 or higher, OR
    • any two courses designated as "LCC" by the General Education Board, OR
    • term abroad courses (including miniterms) that deal with a cultural tradition outside the U.S.
  • Quantitatives and Mathematical Reasoning (QMR) (1 course)  (QMR form)
  • Science and Technology (2 courses)
    • one course in natural sciences with lab (SCLB), AND
    • one course from science or engineering, with or without lab (SCLB or SET) (SET form)

    • Students with a regular departmental major may count one course from their major department toward their cluster.  (Courses required for a major but outside the major department may be included in a cluster.)
    • Students automatically satisfy the Cluster requirement by competing either a major or a minor in any interdisciplinary program, or an Organizing Theme major or minor. (Note: this includes having an interdisciplinary program as one-half of an Interdepartmental major; e.g. ID - Economics/American Studies. Students who are pursuing an Interdepartmental major or full double major may count one course from each of the two departments toward their cluster.)
    • Students declare or change their cluster in the WebAdvising system
    • Faculty will see their advisee's cluster choice just below the major and minor in the WebAdvising system.
