Welcome to Union!

On behalf of the faculty and administration of Union College, congratulations and welcome to Union. We are looking forward to your arrival on campus this fall. Your first important task as a college student will involve pre-registering for classes for the fall term. The information in the following pages is intended to help streamline the pre-registration process.

Please refer to the list of links on the left-side of this page for information on specific areas. You are encouraged to contact the Chairs of the academic departments at the College for questions specific to those departments; should you have broader curricular questions, feel free to contact me, Dean Mark Wunderlich, at wunderlm@union.edu (e-mail is really the best way).

It is strongly recommended that you allow yourself plenty of time to read and thoroughly understand the entire pre-registration web site before you begin the registration process. We will begin to place students into fall term courses after June 8, 2012. PLEASE look through everything first.

How it all works

  1. Review this website carefully before the preregistration process begins.
  2. Emails with specific information on how to preregister will be sent to your current email account. You will be able to stop and save your progress at any point in the process using the "Save and Continue Later" option on the form. Complete the preregistration form by June 8, 2012.
  3. Registration will begin shortly after June 8th based on the completed submissions. Do submit before June 8th as late submission may result in your not being placed in the courses of your first choice.

First-Year Preceptorial

This is a required course for all students. Your First-Year Preceptorial course will determine your Minerva assignment and housing placement. Students will be placed in these courses first; placement will begin on June 11. Please click on the link on the left to view the course descriptions. You must choose 8 First-Year Preceptorial courses from the options listed on the left.

Union and CT Scholars will receive information about their special Scholars First-Year Preceptorial separately over the summer; Scholars First-Year Preceptorial will be one of your three courses in the Fall term.

Mathematics Placement Exam

ALL students must take the Mathematics Placement Exam as the College requires all student to complete a Quantitative Mathematical Reasoning Requirement. You should plan on taking this exam as soon as possible, while things are still fresh in your mind. EXAM DEADLINE : July 15.

Chemistry Placement Exam

Students interested in taking Chemistry courses at Union must take the Chemistry Placement Exam. EXAM DEADLINE: July 15.

Extra Time on Examinations

If you believe you qualify for extra time on examinations, please contact Shelly Shinebarger, Director of Student Support Services, at shinebas@union.edu regarding appropriate documentation.

The Next Step: Pre-Registering/Email Accounts

By May 18 you will receive an email from Kristin Bidoshi, Dean of Studies, (bidoshik@union.edu) outlining how to preregister. This email will be sent to your current email address, not your Union College email. Be aware that this email may get filtered to your spam/junk folder. Please check your junk folder for messages from bidoshik@union.edu .
