Tenure Track Position in Personality or Developmental Psychology

PERSONALITY, DEVELOPMENTAL, or CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY: The Union College Department of Psychology invites applications for a tenure-track position in personality or developmental psychology; candidates in clinical psychology or experimental psychopathology who have a strong emphasis in personality or development would also be appropriate. The appointment will be at the beginning or advanced Assistant Professor level, beginning September 2010, pending budgetary approval. Candidates should show a commitment to undergraduate teaching and have a strong program of research. Teaching responsibilities could include some of the following: introductory psychology, personality, abnormal psychology, lifespan development, upper-level courses and seminars and supervision of honors research. An ability to contribute to the college’s strategic plan is highly desirable, e.g. by developing community-based learning or international research experiences for our students or contributing to our ethics across the curriculum initiative and/or our diversity initiatives. Ph.D. by appointment date preferred.
Union is a small, private college founded in 1795 with a long history of excellence in the liberal arts, sciences, and engineering. Union is located in New York’s Capital Region, a mid-sized metropolitan area full of affordable, livable neighborhoods and interesting cultural and recreational opportunities. It is also about an hour from the Adirondack Mountains and about 3 hours from Boston and New York City. The Psychology Department has 11 full-time and three part-time members and graduates 50-60 majors per year. The College and Department seek faculty who are excellent teachers and will involve students in their programs of research. The Psychology Department also supports a neuroscience major and ongoing research in neuroimaging at Albany Medical College’s Neurosciences Research Center. The College offers generous support for faculty development in many ways, including junior sabbaticals, startup funds, travel funds, and internal grants. Teaching load is two courses per trimester.
