Windows Vista and Office 2007Windows Vista is the replacement for the Windows XP operating system. Union College is licensed, through our Campus Agreement with Microsoft, for Windows Vista Enterprise or Business. Information Technology Services has chosen Windows Vista Enterprise as the version that will be installed and supported on institutionally-owned computers. Office 2007 is the replacement for the Office 2003 suite of applications for the Windows platform. ITS is currently supporting both Office 2003 and Office 2007. This page is designed to provide you with a starting point for information about the transition to Windows Vista and Office 2007. Information is broken down into several categories:
Faculty Office ComputersStarting in December 2007, all Windows computer replacements handled through ITS' Faculty Replacement Policy will run Windows Vista and Office 2007. The only exception to this will be if the faculty member runs discipline-specific software that has not been released in a Vista-compatible version. Computers in Public SpacesIt is expected that all ITS-managed electronic classrooms, public labs and general access Windows computers will be running Office 2007 beginning with the Fall 2008 term. Faculty requesting Windows-based software for any of these spaces, should work with ITS to ensure that the software is compatible with Office 2007. ITS will attempt to maintain an accurate list of software used in these spaces and the versions that are compatible with Windows so that faculty members can quickly check the software they use.
