Account Information

Password Resets - Forgot your idol password, came into ITS to have it reset and still can't get into your email?  Did you remember to change your password before you logged into webmail?  If you come into ITS to reset your password, the first thing you need to do after we reset it is to change your password.  If you're not sure how to do that, please see our documentation here: http://acaddocs.union.edu/HT_CHANGE_PW.pdf

Setting up an email client - If you're trying to setup an email client on your computer (eg, Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, etc.) you'll need to know a few important things.  First, you must setup the client to "pop" mail using POP3, do not try to use IMAP.  The email server name is pop.union.edu.  Second, the SMTP server (which sends the mail) is mail.union.edu, but will only work on campus.  If you are off-campus, you will need to contact your ISP to find out what their SMTP server is.

Union College email policy - Union College considers the College's e-mail system (that is, student's username@union.edu address), the standard, and sometimes preferred, means of internal communication at the College. All full-time and part-time students are expected to regularly check their Union College e-mail account (on idol) and to acknowledge messages in a timely manner. In addition to general College notices, faculty members frequently use the College’s e-mail system to notify and correspond with members of their classes. It is recommended that students frequently access their College assigned e-mail account for information.  Individuals may choose to have their @union.edu e-mail accounts forwarded to an off-campus account.  All students are responsible for managing their disk quota such that there is room for new mail to arrive.

The College is not responsible for delivery problems to non-official e-mail accounts.

Instructions on how to have email forwarded from a Union (idol) account using webmail can be found at: http://acaddocs.union.edu/HT_FORWARD_WEBMAIL.pdf

Instructions on how to have email forwarded from a Union (idol) account using Unix commands can be found at: http://acaddocs.union.edu/HT_FORWARD_EMAIL.pdf
