Adding Metadata

Metadata offers additional information about an asset (e.g. a page/folder/image) that helps to classify or describe the asset.

It is important to fill in at least two fields of metadata when creating a page or folder: Display Name and Title. These fields are used for navigation, and search results.  These are now available when starting to edit a page or file.

  • Display Name is the name which represents the page throughout the live site navigation. For this page, the Display Name is 'Adding Metadata'. The cleanest look is a 1 line navigation item - but this is not always possible.
  • Title is what appears at the top of a user's browser  window or in a tab when visiting the webpage.  It is also used as the linked text when the page is returned as part of our site search. This page's Title is 'CMS: Metadata'.  The Title may be different for the following reason - you may call your homepage 'Home' in the Display Name to simplify your navigation but if your page is returned as part of search results you would want it to be a more specific link like 'Economics Home'.
