Campus Parking

Vehicle Registration

Union College requires that all motor vehicles using the campus be registered with the Campus Safety Department.

Motorbikes and/or motorcycles are subject to the same regulations as cars and must be registered with the Campus Safety Office. FIRST YEAR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN A FULL TIME UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM ARE NOT PERMITTED TO HAVE ANY VEHICLE ON CAMPUS DURING THEIR FIRST YEAR, except those students who live at home and commute to the College. Any member of the College community who fails to register a vehicle that is being used on campus may be fined in addition to any other violations. Any vehicle on the campus (whether registered or not) may be towed off campus at the owner's expense and liability upon the accumulation of three or more unpaid tickets.

Application for Permits may be obtained at the Campus Safety desk at College Park Hall in person or by calling 518-388-6381 between the hours of 9am and 3pm and requesting the form through the mail or by fax. Permits are the property of Union College and may not be sold, transferred, given away or otherwise disposed of. The person who is registering a vehicle must appear in person at College Park Hall to register. Permits may be paid for in cash, check, money order, or by charging the amount to your student account.

College Park Residents
College Park neighborhood residents must also obtain a hang tag to park in the College Park parking lots. There is no charge for the College Park hang tag UNLESS you fail to return the tag at the end of the academic year or upon change of residence outside the College Park area.

Parking on Campus

Union College assumes no responsibility or risk for any vehicle, its occupants or property contained therein or thereon, while parked or driven on Union College property. Parking on Union College property is a privilege, not a right, and parking space is not guaranteed for each vehicle in any parking area.

The Campus Safety Department will issue tickets to illegally parked vehicles and if necessary, tow vehicles at the owner's expense. No one is exempt from campus traffic enforcement.

Traffic Regulations

All roadways on campus are fire lanes to ensure that emergency vehicles have access to all buildings and residence halls. Motor vehicles parked on or along fire lanes may be towed off campus at the owner's expense and liability. Because the Union campus is primarily residential, there is a considerable amount of pedestrian traffic, which necessitates a strict policy toward speeding, reckless, and drunk driving. Persons violating these policies will have Conduct Charges filed against them and will be subject to disciplinary action. The action taken may include the loss of campus driving privileges, a fine, social probation, a combination of penalties, or suspension from the College. A complete list of the College traffic rules and regulations is available at the Campus Safety Department.

All New York State vehicle and traffic laws will be enforced on campus and Campus Safety officers will issue tickets for violations when necessary. Storing of cars on campus is forbidden. All vehicles must be removed at the end of the college year or upon notification from the Campus Safety Office.

Appeals of Parking

Appeals of parking or other traffic-related violations must be made within seven days at the Campus Safety Department office between 8:00 am-4:30 pm Monday-Friday. Failure to file an appeal within this seven day period will result in the loss of the right to appeal the violation or associated fine. Persistent violators will have their campus registration revoked, and their vehicles will be towed off campus at the registrant's expense and liability.

Visitors and Temporary Registration

Members of the College community who will have a vehicle on campus for less than three weeks or who have a visitor with a vehicle must register such vehicles at the Campus Safety Department. The temporary and visitor registration is $3.00 per semester. However, failure to register these vehicles may result in a fine. The host is responsible for guest's penalties.
