Union College Personal Safety Alert

NYS Sex Offender Registry:

New York State law permits law enforcement authorities to share certain information with citizens about registered sex offenders who reside in the community. We have received information that a number of sex offenders are residing in proximity to our campus, including Level 3 Sex Offenders residing on University Place. According to law enforcement officials, these individuals have not committed recent criminal acts nor has Campus Safety received any complaints about them to date. However, based upon the close proximity of these individuals to the main campus and certain off-campus student rental units, their presence poses potential risk to the College community. As an extra precaution, Campus Safety has increased patrols in these areas.

You are urged to be cognizant of your surroundings, walk or run in pairs, utilize the College's Escort Service (which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling Campus Safety at 388-6386), and keep doors and windows locked. Additionally, as part of the College's on-going effort to keep the campus community informed, below please find a link to the New York State Level 3 Sex Offender Subdirectory. The website provides information about registered, Level 3 sex offenders, including those who currently reside in close proximity to the Campus (the "12308" ZIP Code area for example).
