Life Safety

The Union College Life Safety Office provides a broad variety of services to the campus community. Included is the fire safety & fire protection end of the department. Union College takes fire safety very seriously and works closely with state and local authorities to ensure our campus buildings are safe and meet the current fire codes. All Union College buildings are inspected on an annual basis by the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control as well as the Union College Fire Marshal. The inspection period generally lasts 3 months.

Union College is a member of the Center for Campus Fire Safety, which is a non profit organization that provides fire safety training and information to College Campuses across the United States. We are also a member of the National Fire Protection Association, which is a national organization that sets the standards for fire safety codes across North America.

Union College also employees an alarm systems technician. The technician works closely with EHS-Fire and Campus Safety, to resolve and repair problems with fire and security systems on campus. EHS-Fire plays a vital role in the management of all fire and life safety systems on campus. EHS oversees the repair, replacement and inspection/testing of all fire alarm & sprinkler systems.
