The Union College Converging
Technologies (CT) Scholars Program is an academic scholarship program for
students with a broad range of interests who are planning to study in one of the
Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) fields. The scholarship
is funded by the National Science Foundation and provides selected students with
additional financial aid. CT Scholars are also expected to participate in one
or more of
Union's CT initiatives to enhance their educational experience at Union. The
objective of the program is to attract and retain talented students, especially
from groups traditionally under-represented in STEM fields, who can become
innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders.
The CT Scholars program
offers opportunities throughout scholar's four years at Union, and at each
stage, you will be encouraged to take an interdisciplinary approach to your
studies.
Upon admission to Union, qualified students will be invited to apply to the
CT scholars program.

CT Scholars Program Details
The CT Scholars Program is funded by the National
Science Foundation, and is designed to encourage students to complete
undergraduate degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics) fields.
At Union College, CT Scholars receive the
following benefits:
- Additional annual financial support valued at
$5,000-$7,000 so long as you continue to meet the program criteria
- Participation in a First-Year Scholars
Preceptorial (seminar)
- Participation in a CT Scholars Research
Seminar (SRS)
in which you will
be introduced to the world of research and design and will carry out
a research project
- An independent research project
of your
own under the close supervision of a faculty supervisor, completed
during your sophomore or junior years, or as a summer research
project
- The opportunity to become
involved
with one or more of Union’s K-12 STEM outreach programs
- Special
academic and career advising and guidance, including participation
in a series of Tomorrow's Leaders workshops.
- Completion of an individual
capstone senior research or engineering design project
- Participation in
a Senior Colloquium
in which you present your own work and will be able to invite
faculty and other guest speakers
In exchange, Scholars incur the
following obligations:
- Normal progress toward
completion of an undergraduate degree in a STEM field (including
Applied Mathematics, Astronomy,
Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Engineering, Computer
Science, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology,
Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Neuroscience, Physics)
- Maintenance of a grade point
average of 3.2 or better
- Pursuit of interdisciplinary
studies,
either as a major, or as a minor or concentration which complements
your chosen major
