Director of Student Support Services
Shelly Shinebarger
Shelly Shinebarger serves as the primary international student advisor working directly with the all international students at Union College. She is responsible for issuing I-20’s/DS-2019’s and assisting in all matters concerning visas, passport and other necessary paperwork required for legal status.
Orientation and programming events are offered each term on various immigration topics to help the students stay informed. Shelly also coordinates and manages student accommodations. She reviews all incoming documentation, meets with students initially and determines what academic accommodations are necessary. The office oversees all of the academic accommodations and this is determined on a case by case basis. Shelly helps the students develop self-advocacy skills and assists them with their transition to college.
Shelly also runs the Peer Assistants for Learning Program at Union College that is currently in it’s 4th year. The goal of the program is to help students be academically successful and act as a liaison to the academic resources available. The students act as an academic resource/coach and provide encouragement and support to fellow students. Student Support Services is part of the Dean of Students Office, and is committed to providing students with disabilities and international students support during their academic career at Union.
