Community Service
Service to others is an integral part of our Catholic Christian life. The Catholic Chaplaincy at Union seeks to provide a variety of opportunities for students to live out this aspect of their faith during their college years. Students are invited to participate in the ministries of local parishes and also engage themselves in activities serving the needs of the larger Schenectady community.
Service projects have included:
- Weeding and planting gardens in downtown Schenectady as part of Union's John Calvin Toll Community Service Day
- Participating in the annual campus Relay for Life to benefit cancer research
- Doing yard work at the new home of a formerly homeless immigrant family in Schenectady
- Painting the interior of a house in Schenectady being rehabbed by the Community Land Trust
- Repacking food donations at its warehouse and working on the Patroon Land Farm of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York
- Working at a Habitat for Humanity house rehabiliation project in Schenectady
