Binyavanga Wainaina, Union’s writer-in-residence, continues to garner worldwide accolades, top literary prizes and invitations to conferences with heads of state. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution named the native Kenyan to its list of people around the world worth watching in 2008, along with President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan and Cuba’s Fidel and Raul Castro. Wainaina is the founder and editor of Kwani? (So What?), Kenya’s first literary magazine.

College Park Hall

College Park Hall was purchased by the College in 2003 and underwent renovation to become a residence hall for 253 students.

The building opened in the fall of 2004, featuring 77 singles and 88 doubles, equipped with bathrooms in every unit. College Park Hall is home to a Dining Kiosk, Fitness Center, Ballroom and Campus Safety Department. South of College Park Hall, the college has installed a lighted athletic field, available to the community, and a new entryway that opens to the College Park neighborhood and the Union campus.
